Havre de Grace, Uncle Mo Early Favorites for Breeders’ Cup Classic

(Wednesday, October 12) With just over three weeks to go before this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, the brilliant filly Havre de Grace and Kelso Handicap (G2) winner Uncle Mo are the early betting favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

A winner of five of her six races this year, she has already beaten the boys, taking the Woodward Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on September 3.

Her lone loss this year was a nose loss to Blind Luck in the Delaware Handicap (G2) at Delaware Park on July 16.

A win in the Classic would likely wrap of the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year for the Larry Jones trainee, and she would make it three years in a row for females, following in the footsteps of Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta.

The Wynn Las Vegas Book has Havre de Grace listed as the 3/1 favorite for the Classic. Bodog is offering 5/1, while Mike Watchmaker of the Daily Racing Form has her listed as the 5/1 second choice on his line.

Expected to take plenty of betting action is the 2010 two-year-old champion Uncle Mo, who put on a dazzling display winning the Kelso Handicap (G2) on October 1 at Belmont Park.

The colt went gate to wire over a speed friendly racing strip to score by three lengths and earn a career best 118 Beyer Speed Figure.

Trained by four time Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher, the colt is listed by Wynn at 4/1 on the early betting line.

Bodog has Uncle Mo listed as the 7/2 favorite, while Watchmaker has the colt listed as the 9/2 betting favorite on his early betting line.

Whitney Handicap (G1) winner Tizway, who missed the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) on Oct. 1 due to spiking a fever is listed at 8/1 by Wynn, 13/2 odds at Bodog, and 6/1 by Watchmaker.

Trained by James Bond, the son of two time Classic winner Tiznow has made four starts this year, a third in the Gulfstream Handicap (G2) where he was beaten just a head and a nose, and then he was third in the Charles Town (G3) behind Duke of Mischief and Game On Dude.

His first win came in the Met Mile (G1) at Belmont Park on May 30, followed by his Whitney score on Aug. 6.
