Breeders Cup Sprint

The Breeders’ Cup Sprint is usually one of the most wide open races of the two-day championship event, a six furlong sprint on the main track that usually is a mad dash from start to finish.
A photo finish often decides the winner of the race, most recently in 2009 when Dancing With Silks with Joel Rosario in the irons won by the slimmest of margins over Crown of Thorns in a four horse photo.
The top four were separated by a nose, head, and a nose, with Dancing With Silks pulling off the second biggest upset in Sprint history, returning $52.60 for a $2 bet with fellow longshot Crown of Thorns (15/1) completing a $2 exacta that returned $455.80.
Hall of fame trainer Bob Baffert leads all trainers with three wins in the Sprint (1992, 2007, 2008), and saddled the only two-time winner of the race Midnight Lute, who won in 2007 and 2008.
Corey Nakatani leads all jockeys in Sprint wins with four (1996, 1997, 1998, 2006).
2010 Recap: Big Drama, with jockey Eibar Coa aboard broke like a shot out of the one post and jumped to the early lead and did not look back, taking the field gate to wire to win the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Sent off as the 5/1 second choice in the field of 12, the colt drew clear in the stretch and held off runner up Hamazing Destiny by 1 ½ lengths, returning $12.40 for a $2 wager.
Hamazing Destiny came with a five wide rally to grab the runner up spot under jockey Joel Rosario at odds of 23/1 and completed a $2 exacta that paid $254.80.
Big Drama was trained by David Fawkes, who won the race with his first starter in a Breeders’ Cup race.
