Ladies Goldikova, Havre de Grace Look to Dominate Boys in Breeders’ Cup

Following in the hoofsteps of Zenyatta, a pair of ladies will be front and center in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup, which will be held on Nov. 4-5 at Churchill Downs.

The brilliant mare Goldikova ships to the U.S. again, looking to beat the boys for the fourth consecutive time in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), the tenth race on the card on Saturday.

Trained by Freddy Head, who was the winning jockey in the Mile aboard Miesque in 1987 and 1988, is confident his brilliant mare can take down an unprecedented fourth Mile victory in her last career start.

Ladies are Headliners as Record 193 Pre-Enter for Breeders’ Cup

Led by three-time Mile winner Goldikova and Horse of the Year candidate Havre de Grace, who will take on the boys in the Classic, there were 193 horses pre-entered in this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, which will be held at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4-5.

Although it might be hard to top the last two runnings of the Classic, which featured Zenyatta being the first female to beat the boys in 2009, followed by the brilliant mare having her prefect record spoiled by Blame last year, this year’s Classic has the making of being another intriguing betting race.

So You Think Adds Betting Intrigue to Breeders’ Cup Classic

The quest of the brilliant filly Havre de Grace to beat the boys again in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and wrap up Horse of the Year honors may get more difficult, as the connections of a top European horse have their sights on trying the Classic.

Dato Tan Chin Nam, who sold a controlling stake in So You Think to Coolmore last year, said he wanted his five-year-old to 'take on the world' and ship to Churchill Downs for the Classic, which would be his third start in six weeks and his first career outing on dirt.

Havre de Grace, Uncle Mo Early Favorites for Breeders’ Cup Classic

(Wednesday, October 12) With just over three weeks to go before this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, the brilliant filly Havre de Grace and Kelso Handicap (G2) winner Uncle Mo are the early betting favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

A winner of five of her six races this year, she has already beaten the boys, taking the Woodward Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on September 3.

Her lone loss this year was a nose loss to Blind Luck in the Delaware Handicap (G2) at Delaware Park on July 16.

Havre de Grace Set to Face Boys in Breeders’ Cup Classic

(Monday, October 3) The brilliant filly Havre de Grace put in her final prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on Saturday by trouncing her rivals with a breathtaking victory in the Beldame (G1) at Belmont Park.

The Fox Hill Farm owned filly won her fifth race in six starts this year, and will head to Churchill Downs with a chance to be the third consecutive female to take down Horse of the Year honors, following in the footsteps of Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta.

Stars Come Out for Breeders’ Cup Preview Day

With just a month to go before this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, most of the top horses in training will make their final start before the big show this Saturday.

Trainer Mark Casse saddled four starters in the $200,000 Natalma (G3), and it was the John Oxley owned and Casse trained Northern Passion who rallied from the back of the pack with a rail skimming ride from jockey Luis Contreras to win by 1 ¼ lengths.

Churchill Downs Hosts Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships
